Trump SoHo New York City Review: Unsurpasssed Luxury

Trump SoHo New York is a luxury hotel by every standard. Whenever I am in New York City I want to be away from Midtown, you cannot relax there. The perfect combination for a  New York luxury getaway is a quiet location, big rooms, spa, on site bar, close to great shopping and dining. I found all of these amenities and more during a recent stay at Trump Soho in New York City.

Trump SoHo New York

When you think of New York City you probably think of Broadway, Times Square and the Empire State Building. And while midtown Manhattan may be the tourists choice, the locals prefer the downtown vibe of the city. Downtown Manhattan feels like a completely different city, especially at night. Trump SoHo is located on the western edge of downtown, where TriBeCa meets the West Village.

Trump SoHo is the neighborhood’s only AAA Five Diamond rated hotel, providing a unique perspective on luxury hospitality. That means if you are looking for the best of the best, this is where you will find it.

Welcome to Trump SoHo

When you arrive you are greeted by a cheerful doorman and ushered to the front reception area for check-in. The lobby is large and the ceiling soars. There are generous seating areas outfitted with sleek sofas and slipper chairs. It is a very zen and calming environment, it even smells of aromatherapy. When you come off the busy Manhattan streets it is a welcome hello each day/night.

A Room With A View

There is no standard room at this hotel, let me begin with that. At this property you pay for the view not the room type. Meaning your room on the 10th floor will be less than your room on the 27th floor, all because of the view.

What is so great about the view? I can sum it up in one word: unobstructed. If you go to Manhattan chances are you are staring at another sky rise next to you. If you want to see the Hudson River for miles, or the Freedom Tower clear as crystal–stay here. Each evening I laid in bed facing the Empire State Building and admiring the lights of the midtown skyline. It’s the calling card of New York City, and should be admired.

Space For The Entire Family

The rooms are large, some of the largest I have experienced in New York City. A King room is 422 sq ft and they only get bigger from there. I had the pleasure of staying in a one-bedroom family suite on the 27th floor.

Upon entering the room I found a half bath in the main hallway. Unless you travel with kids you have no clue what having an extra toilet is worth–it’s priceless. This would also prove beneficial if visiting for a girls weekend. We need more than one bathroom, it’s a proven fact.

The main area of the suite is a living room and work area in one. Furnished with a large desk, flat screen television, sofa and two chairs. This makes for a great space to stretch out after walking the streets of New York.  There is a a wet bar that has a sink, mini bar, nespresso machine and microwave. The mini-bar is fully stocked so there is no fridge to store anything.

The living room doubles as a bedroom in the evening, as the couch is also a full size sleeper sofa. There is a door you can pull closed for privacy.  If you have more than two guests in your room, housekeeping will turn down the bed for you each evening.

The master bathrooms are spacious, clad in veined gray marble and outfitted with closeted toilets. Most have a separate stall shower encased in clear glass and a big tub perched in front of the window affording a great view (and memorable soak). Though classically appointed, the bathrooms flaunt the hotel’s trendiest feature: they’re doorless. You’ve been warned.

For a family this bathroom set up wasn’t all too ideal for me. Sure the toilet had a door, but everywhere else lacked privacy. I know my daughters would come strolling in during my shower, and the glass just doesn’t make one feel too alone.

The master bedroom is very large and housed with a king bed, bedside tables feature charging stations, a bedside stereo along with the remote for the in-suite environment controls. With the touch of a button, you can change lighting, temperature, music, communications, the TV and the shades throughout your suite.  There is also a large dresser with flat screen television.

I found ample space for my things as there is a large closet and drawers in both the dressers and in the closet. Certainly a plus for family travel, as the need for space to put away your clothes can often be an issue.

The Spa at Trump

Every great luxury hotel has a spa, well in my mind it does. Offering 11,000 sq feet of space to relax you will find your Zen at The Spa. The Spa at Trump features nine private treatment rooms and wet rooms, a state-of-the-art fitness center, two separate authentic luxury hammams for men and women (the first in New York City), indoor and outdoor relaxation areas and an extensive menu of treatments.

I indulged in the 60 minute Trump Classic massage and it was bliss. Before my treatment I was escorted to the ladies changing room, and I was able to store my belongings in a locker. My masseuse was fantastic, she asked for my problem areas before the massage began and focused on them during. I melted into the table as she worked all the stress away. Once my massage was complete I was escorted to the relaxation lounge where I stayed in my place of peace for 30 minutes or so.

Use of the spa facilities (sauna, steam, relaxation lounge) is complimentary with all spa treatments. During the summer months, there is a $25 charge for hotel guests to use the amenities without a reserved treatment.

An Outdoor Oasis

If you are looking to relax without spending money on a spa treatment head up to the 7th floor and enjoy the outdoor pool. Yes, I did say outdoor pool. In the summer months the rooftop area becomes a calm oasis from the city. The pool is only four feet deep, but the summer months are hot in NYC and any cool water is welcome.

I loved the outdoor oasis on the rooftop. It is certainly hard to come by in the heart of Manhattan.

Dining at Trump SoHo

Looking to grab a bite to eat? You have three options at Trump Soho. If you have just come in from a long flight, or even a long night you can order for the 24 hour in-room dining menu. On the seventh floor you will find Bar d’Eau. This elegant poolside bar serves high-end craft cocktails and gourmet small bites. I enjoyed a refreshing white sangria after my visit to the spa.

Mr. Jones is on the first floor of the hotel and is inspired by a well-traveled, classic gentleman of the 1960’s. The decor is tasteful yet modern Americana.  Both the cocktail and food menus are influenced by Mr. Jones’ globetrotting escapades and feature flavors and ingredients from around the world.

Trump Kids

At Trump Hotels kids come first. Trump Kids is a brand wide program that caters to the smallest members of the family. The following is offered at the Soho location,backpack filled with age-appropriate amenities such as coloring book and crayons, hat, copy of Time Out New York Kids magazine and more. One of the signature Trump Kids in-room amenities is make-your-own cookie, which comes with cookies, and icing and sprinkles and various other ways for kids to decorate.

Trump Soho New York Overall

I would absolutely come back to the Trump SoHo New York Hotel, and preferably with my kids. The downtown location made for evenings out peaceful and more enjoyable than being in midtown. I wasn’t fighting anyone for sidewalk space. The large rooms are certainly a winning reason to visit with family. Kids equal stuff, and in the one bedroom suite we would never feel cluttered on top of one another.

The outdoor pool was a definite plus in my book. This is the first New York City hotel I have stayed in that even had a pool, let alone outside.

My experience was fantastic with everyone from the front desk, to the doorman always helping me hail a cab, to the evening turn down service. Everything was done with a smile and in a manner that a luxury travel guest would expect. There is a distinct reason that this hotel is a coveted five diamond, and it shows.

I can let the fact that the bathroom doesn’t have a door slide, if I can get the unsurpassed luxury that Trump SoHo offers.
