Pico De Gallo is a fresh summer staple in our home. If you’re looking for an alternative to the often over-salted and acidic store bought salsa, or want to recreate the fresh flavors of a good Mexican restaurant, try this fresh from the garden recipe.
Pico De Gallo
This quick dish is easy to make with fresh ingredients. Pico de gallo, also known as salsa fresca, is perfect with tortilla chips or as a topping for tacos and other Mexican food or even with grilled fish. You’ll never want to buy another jar of salsa off the shelf again after you make this.
Pico de Gallo- Super Simple Recipe

Super simple Pico De Gallo, made with fresh ingredients.
Ingredients
- 2 medium tomatoes, finely diced (better on the firm side than overripe)
- 1/2 cup onion, minced (sweet red or white for a brighter flavor, or go with yellow for less onion taste)
- 1 jalapeño, remove seeds and mince
- Juice of 1 lime (approx. 2 tablespoons)
- 4-6 sprigs cilantro, chopped
- salt
Instructions
Add tomato, onion, cilantro, and jalapeño to bowl and mix. Add salt and lime to taste. For added heat, add a hotter variety of pepper to the mix. Minced garlic, or garlic salt can also be added for a different flavor. Play around with the ingredients to fine tune the recipe and make it your own.
Notes
Quick prep tip: Roughly chop the tomato, onion, jalapeño, and cilantro and use a food processor to mince everything. A good smoothie machine will also work with a few quick pulses, but use an extra food prep cup since these strong flavors can be difficult to wash out and nobody likes onion smoothies.
