Spring Cleaning is upon us, from dirty windows to dust bunnies in places we never knew existed, its time to get the house aired out and cleaned up from a long winter. Let’s face it, not everyone loves cleaning, especially the deep down dirt. So this annual task is one we all want to get done fast and easy.
10 Tips and Tricks For Spring Cleaning
Living in the country my house gets filthy, and I am always looking for shortcuts to make cleaning easier! Here are my favorite tips to make your next big cleaning a little less painful.
1. Make A Schedule
Where do you skip during weekly cleaning? Those are the best places to start. Regardless of where you start, have a plan for when you’re tackling each room, this will keep you more focused. I prefer to tackle one room at a time, it feels a little less overwhelming.
Before I tackle a room, I clean it out. If I haven’t used it, it goes in a donation bag. No sense holding onto more junk to clean. Don’t forget the bathroom, throw out old expired medicine and cosmetics that have been in there since you first moved in.
3. Say Goodbye To Dirty Fan Blades
Fan blades get filthy, it’s one of those out of sight out of mind tasks. However, you don’t want to turn on the fan when the house heats up and have dirt fly all over the house. To clean fan blades, toss a pillowcase over the blade then slowly pull off. All of the dust and dirt will stay contained inside the pillowcase.
4. Don’t Buy A New Mattress, Clean It
Mix lavender essential oil with one cup baking soda. Sprinkle on your mattress and let sit for one hour. The baking soda will absorb dirt, moisture and odors while the essential oil will leave the mattress smelling fresh. Vacuum and enjoy your fresh mattress.
5. Don’t Forget The Windows
If you are like me and take the screens out each winter, be sure to clean the window before putting the screens back. Use a q-tip to clean tight spaces in your window tracks then wipe with a clean paper towel. Skip the blue glass cleaner and use 50% vinegar and 50% water mix for streak free windows.
6. Kitchen Cabinet Natural Cleaner
Ever notice the grime and build up on your kitchen cabinets? Yeah, it’s gross. Use 1 part vegetable oil with 2 parts baking soda then scrub with a toothbrush. Wipe with a hot towel, and the grime will be gone.
7. Make Floors Look New
Winter is hard on floors, salt and water leaves a build up. Make your floors look new again with a mixture using 7 cups water, 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/3 cup lemon juice, and 1/4 cup vinegar. Let sit for an hour then scrub off. Your dirty grout will be clean again.
8. Get The Scuff Marks Off Baseboards
No need to re-paint the baseboards to get them like new again, simply use a Magic Eraser and the scuff marks, dirt and hair will come off.
9. Clean Your Drains
The Zip-It drain cleaner is much better on your pipes than chemicals. It works every time and only takes a few seconds to do one drain. You might be a little grossed out when you see what’s down the drain! After you get the funk out, clean the drain by simply pouring baking soda in there, and then pouring hot distilled vinegar down it. Run the hot water to rinse clear!
10. Clean Your Kitchen and Bathroom Faucets
Cut a lemon in half and start rubbing to remove hard water stains and rust from any stainless steel in the bathroom or kitchen. Plus, this leaves behind a fresh, natural scent instead of harsh chemical fumes.
I hope these simple tips and tricks make your spring cleaning a little easier!
