Somehow when we become Parent’s it seems we can’t chase our own dreams anymore because we have to focus on fulfilling our children’s needs, wants and dreams. I am going to tell you that it’s a bold faced lie, if you focus on doing nothing but making your children happy and sacrificing your own passion and dreams you will end up miserable. Go after what you want in life, don’t let your passion sit on a shelf.
Passion: Embrace It!
Does fulfilling your passion make you a horrible parent? NO!
Will your kids think less of you because you went after something you were passionate about? NO!
They will admire you for working so incredibly hard on something you cared deeply about. In continuing to pursue your passion you are showing your children that anything is possible that you put your mind to. Leading by example (well good examples) is the best parenting in my opinion.
As I come to the end of my 36th year, I could not be more proud of myself. I stepped out of my comfort zone and put all my heart and soul into building my brand, something that was important to me. I am respected by peers, invited to events I could have never dreamed of, and built fantastic business relationships. It’s been the most fulfilling year for me in so many ways, I don’t feel selfish for putting myself first now and then to get to this point. My girls have supported me since day one, not once have I heard “Mom, I can’t believe you did this” or “Can you not write that post, it’s stupid and nobody reads it”. They know that it’s important to me, so it’s important to them that I have the time to focus on it.
Is your passion sitting on the shelf? If it is, get up and go after it! Start a non-profit if that’s your passion, make your neighborhood a better place to live, start a fitness program, start a blog (dude that’s hard work though I won’t lie). But please get up and go after your passions! You can fulfill your dreams at any age if you pursue them.
Don’t go through life thinking you can’t because you are a parent, or because you are too old, or just because you are afraid! Believe me, I used all of those excuses and when I finally got up the courage to pursue my own passion, it all came together with well what else for me but “Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust”.
