Orlando is the number one vacation destination in the United States and doesn’t show any sign of slowing down. 2016 is going to be a big year in Orlando with many new additions to it’s already popular theme parks and resorts. Take a peek with me at what we can expect to see open next year in Orlando.
Universal Orlando® Resort and Loews Hotels & Resorts will be opening their fifth on-site hotel in summer of 2016. The Loews Sapphire Falls Resort at Universal Orlando will feature 1,000 rooms and suites with a casual Caribbean theme, built around a lagoon and a towering waterfall. Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort will be adding an additional 400 new guest rooms in 2017. With these great resort additions Universal Orlando Resort doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon!
There’s still more to come in 2016 to Disney Springs, the dining and entertainment complex formerly known as Downtown Disney Area, including the opening of a modern steakhouse, STK Orlando, and a lavish “Industrial Gothic”-style restaurant and bar called The Edison. Celebrity Chef Art Smith has announced a new southern cooking restaurant concept to open in summer 2016 at Disney SpringsTM . Just north of Downtown Orlando, the Winter Park Distilling Company announced plans for a new facility that combines a craft brewery, taproom and retail showroom in the City of Winter Park, opening in January. Having just visited Disney Springs last month I can honestly say it looks amazing, the feel is completely different. I cannot wait to see the project 100% complete, it’s a great change to the area.
Queen Elsa and Princess Ana from the Disney hit animated film “Frozen” will be featured in a new ride opening early 2016 in the Norway pavilion at Epcot in the Walt Disney World Resort. King Kong returns to Universal Orlando Resort with the opening of “Skull Island: Reign of Kong” in the summer at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. SeaWorld is constructing a new 200-foot-tall coaster to open in the summer, Mako will reach speeds of 73 mph as it races along 4,760 feet of steel track. Kong is probably the most anticipated attraction of the summer in my opinion, however those Ice Gals are pretty popular in their own right.
What are you most excited to see opening in Orlando?
