Lice home remedies will not work, and it’s all because of a pesky strain of Super Lice. Yup, just what we need to hear, there is such a thing as super lice. If you have school age children you have probably gotten the “someone was sent home for lice letter, and it made you cringe. I openly admit I am itchy just talking about these nasty little nits.

Lice Home Remedies- They Won’t Work
You can scour the internet and find tons of home remedies for lice treatment, sadly they won’t work and you will not stop the lice from spreading. A new strain of super lice has come to the US and it’s not slowing down.
Anyone can get lice, they have nothing to do with personal hygiene. They are a highly contagious pest, and all it takes is 1 single egg on a hat, pillowcase, hairbrush or anything that comes in contact with your scalp for an infestation to take place. They simply survive by feeding on blood from the human scalp.
What Are Super Lice?
Super Lice, is an evolved form of lice resistant to pesticides, and have turned over-the-counter lice treatments into nothing more than a waste of time. Pesticide solutions are now only effective 30% of the time. So if an actual chemical treatment isn’t killing these super lice, you can be sure a mayonnaise rinse wont work.
Like regular head lice, Super Lice survive by feeding on blood from the human scalp. They lay eggs called nits on the hair shaft and begin multiplying on the scalp. Lice are most commonly found infesting preschool and elementary-aged children, as little ones tend to play closely with one another, making it easier for lice to transfer from one little head to another.
Lice- Yup Even Hair Stylists Kids Get Them
Two years ago my nephews got lice, and the ironic part is both of their parents do hair for a living. You might think they would be more aware of what lice is, but, they had never dealt with them before. It was a full blown, level 10 situation. The ENTIRE house had to be deep cleaned, heads had to be combed over and over, and treatments lasted over a week. Fortunately they were not super lice, but if they had been, well my nephews may have gotten their heads shaved. They got lucky for sure because 99.6% of lice are resistant to treatments. It was a stressful mess that’s for sure.
Home Remedies Won’t Work
There are tons of home remedies for lice treatment and they won’t work. Sorry, but that’s just the facts. I decided to look up a few of these and honestly don’t know why anyone would think these would kill bugs!
1. Anise oil seems to be at the top of the home remedy list. It says they will coat and suffocate lice, sadly this won’t work and you will be throwing away $15 on this “natural remedy”. Plus, you will smell like black licorice after treatment 3 times a day with this oil, and who the heck wants to smell like that.
2. Vaseline is another recommended home remedy for lice, and unless you are a glutton for punishment I don’t think covering a child’s hair in Vaseline is a smart decision. It would take HOURS of endless combing and washing to get that greasy mess out.
3. If you have ever watched “The Office” then you will understand why people are rubbing mayo on their heads to kill lice. Just don’t do it unless you want shiny hair, it won’t kill lice.
4. Garlic rubbed on the scalp “keeps the pesky nits away”, no it doesn’t, they are not vampires, they are eggs and they will just smell like garlic coated eggs if you do this.
All of these are ridiculous, I don’t know why anyone would think that these are remedies for a highly contagious, and fast spreading bug.
Chemical Treatments Are Unhealthy
We are programmed to believe that chemicals will kill lice, so much so, that there is a billion dollar industry in over the counter treatments that people rush out to buy the second they think their child has lice. While pesticide treatments used to be effective, they were never safe. Do you want to put pesticides on your skin? Pyrethroids, the most common ingredient in treatments, come with awful side effects including, burning and tingling skin, respiratory trouble, involuntary twitching, dizziness, nausea, fainting, convulsions and seizures. I don’t know about you but I am not putting this on my kids.
The Best Solution For Super Lice
If you’re looking for an alternative treatment that avoids pesticides and is also safe and effective, an electric lice comb such as the RobiComb® might be for you. This comb zaps live lice, stunning or killing them. They can then be combed out, along with the nits. That’s right, they may be super, but they’re not immune to electrocution.
You don’t need to fear zapping your kids, either. The electric shock doesn’t hurt you or your child, as the teeth of the comb are protected by rubber guards.
Electric combs share the same downfall as other combs, the treatment can be time-consuming depending on the severity of the infestations. However, they are more effective than a regular comb.
While Super Lice have been found in 48 states in just five years, you don’t have to worry about crazy home remedies or pesticides on your children’s heads with the Robicomb. It zaps lice, not kids!
