Gaylord National- 6 Ways to Celebrate Christmas on The Potomac
Christmas on the Potomac at Gaylord National, runs until December 30,2019. Here you can delight in beautiful holiday displays, enjoy a magical Christmas Village and enjoy ICE!, featuring The Grinch! Last weekend we were able to visit as hosted guests of the resort, and boy did we pack in the fun.
1. Feast With The Grinch
Start your day at Gaylord National with a bountiful breakfast buffet, and a visit from Whoville’s main man, The Grinch. Enjoy a delicious meal featuring an omelette station, waffles, pastries, fruit and much more. This one-of-a-kind interactive breakfast experience includes fun trivia, and table-side visits with The Grinch and Max. You do need advanced reservations, as this event sells out each weekend.
2. ICE! featuring The Grinch Who Stole Christmas
Watch how the Grinch tries to steal Christmas from the Whos of Who-ville through beautiful interactive ice displays. Experience favorite scenes from this Christmas special such as the Grinch lurking through the chimneys of the Who-ville homes, the Grinch’s heart growing three sizes after realizing Christmas means a little bit more and sitting down at the Whos’ feast where the Grinch carves the roast beast. Everything is hand-carved from 2 million pounds of ice! It never ceases to amaze us how these artists bring the stories to life.
Tip: Be sure to pack hats, gloves, scarves and a light jacket it is -9 degrees inside!
3. Ice Skating
Head outside to Winter Square (new for 2019) and enjoy ice skating in the all new indoor rink. Kids of all ages can glide along and enjoy this seasonal experience rain or shine. Mom and Dad if you want to save your knees, feel free to pull up a seat at the Tinsel Tavern and enjoy adult beverages in this tacky rink side bar.
4. The Grinch’s Wonderful Awful Scavenger Hunt
Follow The Grinch throughout the Gaylord National as he attempts to stop Christmas by stealing all the presents! Solve all of the clues and win a Grinch prize of your own. This is also a great way to explore the lobby and atrium of the resort, and see all the beautiful decorations.
5. Gingerbread Decorating Corner
Head to the Christmas Village and choose from various kits to decorate, from a full sized house to a Grinch cookie. This is always a favorite tradition of ours, and it gives us some down time from exploring the rest of the resort.
