First Time Cruising Tips: The Sea Is Calling Jenn, September 5, 2023September 5, 2023 Sharing is caring! Share Tweet Pin A first time cruise can seem overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. I think it is actually the best way to travel, especially if you are leaving from a local port- you don’t even have to worry about airports. Here are a few of my tips for first time cruisers, and those debating their first cruise. Why Choose A Cruise? Simple, it’s an easy, convenient way to travel. As a new cruiser the convenience can’t be topped. Unpack once and experience the best of the region you are visiting in one cruise vacation. There is nothing easier than simply waking up in the morning in the world’s most exciting and interesting cities. Your cruise fare includes accommodations, dining, entertainment and an endless array of activities. Refreshing sea air. Sea days can be as relaxing or active as you wish. There is nothing comparable to being out on the open sea with warm ocean breezes. First Time Cruising Tips Here are a few tips to help prepare for your first voyage, I can promise once you enjoy that first relaxing cruise you will be back again and again. If you are traveling by air to your cruise port be sure to arrive a day early for your cruise. The morning that you board your cruise can seem a little hectic, arriving early can ensure that you arrive on time to the port. Be sure to have travel insurance. This will give you a peace of mind should something happen and you have to cancel or if something happens aboard the ship. Have all your documents ready and filled out prior to your boarding of the cruise ship that includes your cruise contract, health form and passport. This will help ensure a smooth embarkation at the cruise terminal. When you pack your day bag include a bathing suit, sunscreen and medications you may need. Luggage may not arrive until 5pm, this way you can enjoy the pool and start your vacation! If you are visiting a private island during your cruise pack floats/rafts. These can easily be purchased and stored in your luggage flat, once the day is done just deflate and stick in the trash. No need to pay rental fees. Have small bills for tips for the porter, room service and beverage staff. On embarkation day cruise ships offer a guided ship tour for free, take the tour and familiarize yourself with the ship. This way you aren’t wandering aimlessly all week and you can have fun! It helps to know the aft from the forward when you are looking for the pool parties, and dance clubs. All good things must come to an end, even your cruise vacation. Be sure to watch the in room video on how to easily and quickly disembark the ship. It may seem a little overwhelming, but I promise it’s easy. You will have a welcome home note in your stateroom along with your luggage tags the night before. This will also tell you where breakfast is the last morning of your cruise and more. Don’t stress about your first cruise, once you enjoy your week at Sea you will certainly be hooked!
