Drummer Boy Camping Resort: Unplug in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania Jenn, August 31, 2017February 1, 2021 Sharing is caring! 107 shares Share94 Tweet Pin13 Drummer Boy Camping Resort is located just outside of Gettysburg National Military Park, and provides the perfect retreat. From tent camping, to RV hookups and cottages for rent your family has many options. My family was recently hosted at the resort, and we had a fantastic time unplugging from technology and enjoying each others company. Our nightly games of rummy got a little intense, funny how you can have fun without being plugged in. I will fully admit, I am not a camper. Sleeping on the ground and sharing bath houses just isn’t my type of travel. However, I can certainly stay at a campground if I am in a cottage, with a bathroom and air-conditioning. Sorry to be a diva like that, but it’s the truth. After a few fun days at Drummer Boy, I would absolutely venture into the woods again–in a cottage of course. Check-In at the Registration Office. credit: Jenn Drummer Boy Camping Resort Drummer Boy Camping Resort combines the History of Gettysburg and the iconic Battlefields with modern amenities such as mini-golf, game room, golf cart rentals, whirlpool spa, two swimming pools, 250′ water slide and more. If you are looking for a Gettysburg getaway and some time unplugged, this is the place for you. Accommodations If you are like me and a cottage is more your speed, you will want the Premium Cottage during your stay. They are centrally located in the resort and a stones throw from the free catch and release pond. Our girls had a blast fishing multiple times a day during our stay. When you arrive at your cottage you will first notice a picnic table, grill and fire pit for your personal use during your stay. There is also a table and chairs on the full-sized deck, with an awning over it. You may want to pack an extra canopy to put over the picnic table in the yard, this will keep the hot sun and/or rains away. Also, since this is your campsite you can decorate with tiki torches, outdoor lights and whatever will make you feel at home. Premium Cottage, Sleeps 9. photo: Jenn G Upon entering the cottage, I stepped into a living room/dining area. These combined spaces are equipped with a couch/futon, table and chairs as well as (4) t.v. trays and a 32″ flat screen t.v. Remember, you are camping and not meant to be sitting indoors all day, so this public space is perfect. The kitchen is equipped with full size range/oven, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker (drip), toaster, mixer, dishes, pots and pans, silverware, cooking utensils and ample cabinet and counter space. Our kitchen had the basics, and nothing extra. I would highly suggest you bring your own pot-holders, measuring cups, serve-ware and anything special you may use for cooking. Full equipped kitchen in your cottage. credit: Jenn G There is one bathroom in the cottage, and has a shower stall, pedestal sink, medicine chest, commode and linen closet. There is also a bath house in the cottage area and that helped when more than one kid had to use the bathroom. Your cottage will come with one set of towels and washcloths (per person), you can bring more from home or do wash in the laundry room near registration. Remember your camping, so no sunken tubs or housekeeping. Notice the mirror above the kitchen sink- that is so you can get ready while another is using this shower. There are two bedrooms in the premium cottage. The master bedroom has a queen size bed, closet, dresser and 22″ Flat Screen TV. Essentially everyone put their things in the closet or dressers in the master as there is no storage in the second bedroom, aside from under the beds. The 2nd bedroom has a full/twin bunk, a 2nd set of twin bunks, and a 19″ Flat Screen TV with DVD player. The second bedroom is literally meant for just sleeping. The beds do come with pillows and bedding, one set per bed. Again if you want the comforts of home, be sure to bring them with you. Overall, the cottage was really nice. It does sleep 9 with someone on the futon in the living room, however I wouldn’t put two families here again. For the person on the futon (my 17-year-old) there is zero sleeping in as you are literally sleeping in the middle of the cottage. Once the kids got up, it was everyone up. I loved how much storage was in the master bedroom for my family, however the other family with us made do with the space under the bunk beds. You could fit one family and a friend or two for the kids, this is also great for larger families. It is rustic, and while you do have indoor plumbing, you are camping. If you are looking for something smaller they do also have cabins and cottages that will sleep anywhere from four to eight people. Resort Amenities Drummerboy is more than just a place to set up camp, it is a resort with various offerings for your family. Included in your stay at Drummer Boy is mini-golf, 250′ water slide and kids splash pool, swimming pool with hot tub, volleyball and basketball, playgrounds, a summer outdoor movie theater and a fishing pond (no license required). On the weekends Drummer Boy has different family fun themes and free activities to go with the theme. When you check in you will get a sheet with all the information for the events. I would assume with Fall coming up there is some great fun to be had! If you didn’t bring your own bikes you can rent tricycles. They offer three different trikes for rent, be sure to rent in advance as they do sell out on busy weekends. I wish it wasn’t raining most of our trip, I wanted to rent the two person side by side trike. We did rent a golf cart during our stay, as the resort is quite large. Find YOUR Gettysburg Address If you are looking for a real way to unplug and enjoy Gettysburg, I would take a look at Drummer Boy Camping Resort. If you are a camper you can bring your tents, pop up campers or full size RV. You can choose from various hook up options depending on your needs. If indoor plumbing and a bed are more your speed (like me) than book one of the premium or deluxe cottages. No matter what camping accommodations you choose, you will certainly enjoy a memorable time at Drummer Boy Camping Resort.
