Gaylord National Christmas On The Potomac

We are lucky enough to live within 90 minutes of the Gaylord National Resort. It sits on the banks of the Potomac River overlooking Northern Virginia and Washington DC. What I love about Gaylord National, is you get all of the amenities of a big city resort, without going into the crazy city. The Gaylord comes to life during the holiday season, and I was able to visit last week, as a special guest, to experience all of the great fun to be had. Take a look at my complete guide to the holidays at Gaylord National.

ICE! Featuring A Charlie Brown Christmas

Each year Gaylord National is host to the renowned show ICE!, if you haven’t experienced ICE! you are truly missing out on a spectacular attraction. Artisans from China are brought in and hand carve all of the amazing ice sculptures and creations. The building is kept at 9 degrees so the ice will not melt. You are given a special parka before entering the building, however don’t forget your hat and gloves, because it is COLD!

This years theme may be my favorite yet, A Charlie Brown Christmas. From Linus telling the Christmas story, to snoopy decorating his dog house, and the choir of kids singing this heartwarming story will take you right back to childhood. Make sure the kids don’t miss the slides, they are made entirely out of ice! Weekends are the most crowded, and do sell out, so be sure to get your tickets in advance.

Cirque Dreams Unwrapped

The atrium comes alive twice daily with Cirque Dreams Unwrapped. Enjoy a fun Christmas tale, with vibrant costumes, acrobatics and thrills! Shows are Tuesday – Friday 1 pm and 6.30 pm and Saturday 1 pm, 6.30 pm and 8 pm. You can buy reserved seating for the weekend shows starting at $19.99.

We loved this show, and really wished it was longer than 30 minutes. I had three ten-year old girls with me that sat in awe the entire show. I would suggest waiting to see the later shows, the large atrium window makes for the sun-glare and the affects weren’t as vibrant.
