During our last visit to Orlando we had the pleasure of being hosted at Remy’s Refuge, a private vacation home located in the beautiful community of Oak Island Cove. I won’t lie, being our first time off-site in Orlando we weren’t sure what to expect. My kids reacted with “off-site, what do you mean?”. When we visit Orlando we normally stay in a resort, with full amenities and on property at Universal or Disney. I can say after staying at Remy’s Refuge we have completely changed our minds about the idea of being off-site on a vacation.
My biggest issue overall being off-site was, will driving in Orlando be a pain? How far are we from the parks? Is the location really that great? I can honestly say that without actually being on Disney property Remy’s Refuge is the closest area to Disney. It is two miles from the main gates of Walt Disney World, you pass ESPN Wide World of Sports on the way to the house. The farthest Disney park is Magic Kingdom, and that was a whopping 7 miles I believe maybe a little more. We also visited Sea World and Universal on this trip, both are less than 15 miles from the house. The location is perfect, being situated near stores, restaurants and of course Orlando’s world class theme parks.
Enough about the location (which is perfect) let’s talk about the house. Remy’s Refuge is a 4 bedroom, 3 bath home in a beautiful and quiet lakeside community. The quiet was something we loved after a long day in the parks, no fighting crowds at the pool or quick service for a snack. We had everything we needed and our own quiet home. Amanda and Trevor (the owners of the villa) really do make you feel that you are guests in their little slice of heaven. Remy’s Refuge doesn’t feel like a sterile rental property that ushers in guests each week, but more someone’s home you are visiting.
The bedrooms are decorated in simple yet fun themes such as Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Lego and Star Wars. It’s a modern and chic homage to these fun themes. There are two bedrooms with King Beds and full master bathrooms, and two more bedrooms located in the back of the house hosting one queen bed and two singles in another with a shared full bath in the hall. My girls were happy because they each had their own rooms, and bathrooms! Definitely not something you get when you are in a hotel for a week, no matter how nice the resort.
Now let’s talk amenities, Remy’s Refuge has them all! A private pool, DVD player with movies to borrow, gas grill, Wii, pool table and foosball table (we found these as a surprise in the garage) as well as a full washer and dryer. We certainly weren’t bored at Remy’s Refuge. My little one swam everyday! I loved being able to do laundry as well, be sure to purchase laundry detergent as this is not provided for you at the villa. I wish we had known there was a Wii because we would have brought games with us, now we know for next time.
We can’t leave out the kitchen, Remy’s Refuge is named after a famous little chef after-all. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to make yourself at home for the week and you can do as little (like me) or as much cooking as you like. Before you arrive at Remy’s Refuge you will receive a Garden Grocer voucher to order the groceries you would like delivered to the villa for your visit. We mainly had breakfast and snacks at the house as we were on the go a lot, however we did grill and enjoyed lunch poolside.
My mind has been completely changed now about staying in a Villa while in Orlando. Remy’s Refuge is a perfect and relaxing break from the theme parks and crazy crowds in Orlando. We truly felt at home and relaxed, yet still on vacation. If you are looking for a vacation home for your next Orlando vacation, look no further than Remy’s Refuge.
