Half Moon Cay is a part of most Bahamas itineraries on Carnival Cruise Line and is a true paradise. We were absolutely blown away by how large, and how gorgeous the beach and island is on Half Moon Cay.
You have to tender to get to the island, if you don’t have Faster to the Fun or Platinum level with priority tender you will need a sticker for your tender number to depart the ship to the island. The stickers are given out at 8am on Lido deck by a staff member. If you have never tendered in port it’s a relatively easy process. Because the sea is so shallow the ships cannot dock there, so there are tender boats that take you from ship to shore. The entertainment staff will call priority tenders at 9am , then follow the numbers every 15 minutes. This tendering process is very easy and efficient in my opinion compared to others I have dealt with.
Half Moon Cay is a full day on the beach from 9am-4pm, honestly I could have stayed all day. Included in your beach day are free beach chairs, full beach access and a fun barbecue lunch in the pavilion. With live music, water play areas, non motorized watersports for rent and more you won’t get bored. If you want to snorkel it’s ideally not the place for it, but you can see some neat sea life at the reef close to water slides. To be honest the water is so incredibly clear you can look down and see fish swimming around you. My youngest thought that was pretty neat, it became a hunt for the biggest fish.
If the beach isn’t for you all day, Half Moon Cay offers bike rentals, a playground for the little ones, basketball court as well as activities on the beach with the entertainment staff (Baywatch run anyone?) Be sure to check with Shore Excursions or your fun times guide for all the events of the day.
You will work up quite an appetite playing in the hot Bahamas Sun! Don’t worry lunch is included, a fun beach barbecue is set up from 11.30-2pm. With offerings from burgers, hot dogs, cold salads, fresh fruit and so much more you don’t want to miss out!
Did I mention there is bar service on the beach, literally there are waiters in the water and along the beach you don’t even have to leave the water for a beverage. Speaking of the beach, Half Moon Cay is one of the most beautiful beaches I have visited. With crystal blue water, soft powdery white sand, no shells and no sea weed its a little island paradise. I could get used to this life for sure!
There are even shops for the non beach lovers to get t-shirts, straw bags, local jams and Half Moon Cay merchandise. Carnival didn’t miss a single detail when they designed this private oasis, there truly is something for everyone.
I cannot rave enough about how gorgeous this island is, if Carnival offered a double dip with two days at Half Moon Cay I would certainly jump right on that opportunity! A few things to know before you go, bring sunscreen and apply all day I am certain this island sits on the sun. Pack your own floats and snorkel gear to bring to the island, it will save you money. Take a walking tour and see the gorgeous flowers all over the island. Stay all day!
